Someone sang "Rocket Man" on American Idol, and I was sure they sang the lyrics wrong... after all, what do fuses have to do with the kinds of rockets PEOPLE use?
I subsequently went and looked it up, and I still think my version is substantially better. Burning fuel at perihelion is what you're SUPPOSED to do as part of an orbital transfer.
I had given Sir Elton and Bernie Taupin far more credit for being savvy about rocketry than they apparently deserved.
It's not hard to convince folks with a rocketry background that my version is correct... all you have to do is adopt a rather "British" pronunciation of perihelion (said as pear - a - lon ).
