The Story: Don't eat the fruit in the garden, Eden,, It wasn't in God's natural plan., You were only a rib,, And look at what you did,, To Adam, the father of Man.
The Story: You smell like goat, I'll see you in hell
I've always been puzzled as to the nature of this song until recently. When I was really little, I thought it was just a nonsense song (not only did I mishear " f**got" as "thingy", I also thought the "chicks" in question were actual baby chickens, and that they were bragging about modern conveniences..."We got the movies, color TV" instead of "We got to move these color TVs") When I read the actual lyrics on the insert of Brothers in Arms, I at first took them at face value, thinking Mark Knopfler was bashing the new wave artists of the time. But soon after THAT I read an interview in the Billboard Book of Number One Hits that said Mark didn't actually come up with them himself, he was eavesdropping on an MTV detractor in an appliance store and he said the song was about the "stupidity of prejudice". So I didn't just bungle them, I bungled them TWICE!
