The story:

I was at a party and someone asked where the bathroom was.
Instead of just answering, I sang the words "there's a bathroom
on the right." Everyone burst out laughing, and it wasn't until
someone explained it to me that I realized I had been completely
wrong for five years.

John Fogerty actually sang this as a joke. You can bet there are people are saying "see i was right!

Saturday Night Live used this lyric in their "Misconceptions" spoof commercial for a music compilation cd, "the songs you thought you knew." Thanks to that, I've always sung it this way too.

Funny enough there is a parody of this song on Bobrivers.com called "Bathroom on the right" http://www.bobrivers.com/#v8470 so thats funny, it DOES sound like bathroom though!

Even though I know the correct lyrics, I still hear 'bathroom on the right.'

My Mother used to think that was the way the song went! My Dad made fun of her all the time! Hilarious!

my husband always sang it like that to be funny (and it was the first time b/c i had never heard it before) according to him it is a well established misquote. in 2008 we went to see john fogerty and he actually sang it that way one time and even pointed to the right!!! We both rolled!!!! The Revival tour...good concert-great seats.

It could also be misunderstood as "There's a baboon on the ride", as in a ride at an amusement park.

I guess you would be in for nasty weather if this guy is searching that bad for a bathroom.

Even though I know the real words, I like this version better, too.

Strangely enough, CCR did use "There's a bathroom on the right!" in one gig. I guess they needed a little joke.

I always thought it was "There's a bedroom on the right"

Apparently, "Weird Al" Yankevic thought this was a keeper, too, since he recorded a parody of "Bad Moon Rising" to this effect!

I think this is hilarious. It's my favourite.

Who DOESN'T hear it that way? Makes much more sense.
